Fees

Dr. Muir's services are private pay. She is not contracted with any insurance plans at this time.  However, her services would be considered "out-of-network" and you may be able to receive partial reimbursement up to 80% for these services.  Call the member services on the back of your insurance card for verification of such benefits.
If you feel that the reimbursement offered by your plan is insufficient, consider appealing for a higher percentage.  Your premium entitles you to medical services with certain parameters for your insurance carrier to stay competitive.  If they are unable to match the standard in the community, they may approve your appeal. The following are just a few examples of the parameters by which they price their premiums:
  1. PROVIDERS:  no "in network" providers available. Just because they may be listed,  does not mean they are available.  Their information may not be updated with the insurance companies.  Many psychiatrists retire, move or close their practices.  Others may be at or above their maximum caseload and unable to take on anymore patients. This is especially prominent in this area where there is a great need for psychiatrists.
  2. LOCATION: no psychiatrists within a reasonable distance of your desired location (e.g. home or work).
  3. TIMING: no psychiatrists with any available appointments within a reasonable timeframe.  Generally, insurance companies try to offer availability for a new medication evaluation within 5-7 days to stay competitive.
  4. SPECIALTY: no psychiatrists available with experience in a subspecialty.  I see all adults and all genders however, I have particular experience in women's reproductive psychiatric medicine (e.g. pre-pregnancy consultations, post partum psychiatric conditions, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, post-abortion remorse/dysphoria, breast malignancy and depression).
  5. ACTS OF NATURE:  a sparsity of available psychiatrists due to a natural disaster (e.g. hurricanes, pandemic).  Click here for more resources of emergency relief in Florida.
If they agree to authorize a higher reimbursement rate, they will want you to submit a superbill after each visit.  A superbill includes Dr. Muir's credentials, a CPT code (service provided), an ICD 10 diagnosis code, date of service and fee for service.  Dr. Muir can provide you with a super bill upon request.
